Active Harborough District
Sponsors of Inspire a Generation
When it comes to sport and physical activity, the benefits of improving access, creating more opportunities and encouraging more people to get involved are countless. As well as the well documented health and wellbeing benefits, sport makes a huge contribution to the economy – over £20 billion a year.
To realise these benefits it is essential to provide a coordinated approach to supporting and developing opportunities for sport and physical activities across the district. And this is the aim of the Active Harborough District group. The group is comprised of local representatives including local sports coaches, volunteers, the local school sport partnership, and district council staff and councillors. This diverse mix of individuals means we can draw on a wide range of experience and expertise to address issues, celebrate local successes and achievements, and ensure we do everything possible to create and promote opportunities for the local community.
Research suggests that 50% of people in the district want to take part in more sports and physical activities. We work to ensure that clubs, coaches and participants receive the support they need to make that happen.
Active Harborough District has already had great success in developing opportunities within the district. We help deliver a range of community activity programmes including Harborough parkrun, offer volunteering opportunities and training for sports coaches and clubs, and give grants to sports clubs to improve facilities.
There is always more we can do to support local sports and activities, and we want to make sure we are helping to make a real difference. So whether you are a budding coach looking to get your first qualification, a club wanting to celebrate your success, or a local resident looking to get involved then Active Harborough District is here to help and support you.
